James W. Cain established J. Cain & Co. in 1951 as the first logistics management firm to operate in Panama's recently established Colon Free Zone.

One of the original promoters of the new trade zone, James Cain was admired for both his keen business sense and his deep humanitarian spirit. With a staff of four, he set up shop in a small office and a 500-square-meter warehouse and began serving his first customers --Pfizer, Gillette and Farwerke Hoechst AG. Today, more than 200 people work at J. Cain & Co., operating with more than 30,000 square meters of warehouse and office space. The company has expanded operations beyond Panama to offer full logistics coverage throughout Latin America.

In 1995, our first subsidiary, Logistics Services Uruguay, began operations in the Florida free trade zone in Uruguay. In 1998, Logistics Services Chile followed suit in Iquique, where we are well positioned to serve both this active trade area and the Bolivian market. Logistics Services (COLOMBIA) Initiated in 2003, opening to business out of Cartagena in order to serve this active trade area and the Colombian market.

J. Cain & Co. was the first Colon Free Zone company to receive cargo agency certification from the International Air Transportation Association (IATA). Today, it maintains its position as one of Panama's leading agencies. On the strength of our extensive expertise in logistics management and shipping, we ship to and from all areas of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well from destinations in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Through our subsidiary, Logistics Services Panama, we have entered into an alliance with DHL, a leading international cargo agency and express door-to-door carrier with more than 600 offices around the globe.
